RIYADH, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday a development investment package of 1.9 billion Saudi Riyals (about 507 million U.S. dollars) for Yemen.

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) announced the launch of the new package of development projects and initiatives for Yemeni governorates, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The package includes 28 development projects and initiatives across several key sectors, including energy, education and transport.

It also covers a new grant for petroleum derivatives to operate power plants across all Yemeni governorates.

The projects aim to enhance security, stability and growth for Yemeni people, said the SDRPY.

On Wednesday, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud met in Riyadh with Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi.

The minister reaffirmed his country's continued support for Yemen, in line with the directives of the Saudi leadership to provide economic support to the Yemeni people.
