SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of the information and communications technology (ICT) products hit a record high last year due to soaring semiconductor demand, government data showed Wednesday.

The ICT products shipment gained 12.4 percent from a year earlier to reach a new high of 264.29 billion U.S. dollars in 2025, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.

Chip export spiked 22.1 percent to hit a fresh high of 173.48 billion dollars, fueled by surging investment in artificial intelligence (AI) servers across the world that led to higher demand and price increase for memory chips.

Display panel shipment declined 9.5 percent to 19.1 billion dollars, while mobile phone export shrank 0.5 percent to 14.35 billion dollars.

Shipment for computers and peripherals added 3.8 percent to 15.35 billion dollars, and communications equipment export climbed 3.9 percent to 2.39 billion dollars.

Import for ICT products swelled 5.8 percent over the year to 151.25 billion dollars in 2025, sending the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 113.04 billion dollars.

Import expanded for chips, mobile devices and computers, but those for communication equipment and display panels reduced last year.
