CANBERRA, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- World No. 8 Mirra Andreeva beat Marie Bouzkova in straight sets on Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinals at the Adelaide International, an Australian Open warm-up event.
Andreeva, the third seed, beat the 45th-ranked Czech player 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and nine minutes in her first match at the tournament after receiving a first round bye.
The Russian 18-year-old had her serve broken in the first game of the match and fell behind 3-1 before she won five consecutive games to win the first set and four consecutive games to win the second.
"I'm super happy with the way I played today," Andreeva said on court after the match.
"I knew that it would not be an easy match, and I'm just happy that I stayed calm, and kept playing aggressive," she added.
Andreeva hit 29 winners and 15 unforced errors compared to 10 winners and 16 unforced errors for Bouzkova, who won a three-set first round match in two and a half hours in hot conditions on Monday and sought medical treatment early in the second set on Tuesday night.
World No. 18 Liudmila Samsonova was knocked out of the Adelaide International in the first round by Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
Andreeva will play the winner of Wednesday's match between Australians Maya Joint and Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarterfinals while Vondrousova will face Kimberly Birrell, another Australian, in the second round. ■
