JERUSALEM, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Israel and Germany signed a joint declaration on Sunday to expand cooperation between their security authorities and set a framework for closer coordination on counter-terrorism, cyber defense and advanced technologies.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement that the declaration was signed in Jerusalem by Netanyahu and Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt.
Netanyahu said it "elevated bilateral security and technological cooperation to a new strategic level."
The German minister held a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar earlier in the day, during which Sa'ar urged the European Union to designate Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps as a terrorist organization.
Dobrindt's visit to Israel comes amid heightened regional tensions since Israel launched its retaliatory war on Gaza following the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7, 2023. ■
