China, Tanzania pledge to align development strategies

Tanzania and China have committed to synergizing the implementation of development strategies to boost common development, according to a joint press communique released on Saturday.

The communique was issued after talks between the foreign ministers of Tanzania and China in Dar es Salaam. Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and foreign minister, visited Tanzania on Friday and Saturday, during which he met with his counterpart, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.

Trump signs order declaring national emergency to "safeguard Venezuelan oil revenue": White House

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order declaring a national emergency to "safeguard Venezuelan oil revenue held in U.S. Treasury accounts from attachment or judicial process," ensuring the funds are preserved "to advance U.S. foreign policy objectives," according to a release by the White House.

The executive order blocks any attachment, judgment, decree, lien, execution, garnishment, or other judicial process against Foreign Government Deposit Funds, which are defined as the Venezuelan oil revenues and diluent sales held in U.S. Treasury accounts, according to the White House fact sheet.

Wildfires burn over 100,000 hectares, prompt evacuations in South Africa's Western Cape

Several wildfires continued to rage across South Africa's Western and Eastern Cape provinces on Saturday, with more than 100,000 hectares of land burned in the Western Cape and further evacuations underway, authorities said.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde told public broadcaster SABC on Saturday morning that fires were affecting the entire Western Cape Province as well as parts of the neighboring Eastern Cape.

Iran's military pledges to defend national interests amid protests

The Iranian military pledged on Saturday to defend national interests, protect strategic infrastructure and public property amid ongoing protests, and urged Iranians to unite to "thwart the enemy's plots," according to state broadcaster IRIB.

In a statement, the military accused Israel and "hostile terrorist organizations" of "attempting to undermine order and peace in cities and disrupt public security through another conspiracy," and of "trying to incite another rebellion in the name of supporting the Iranian people." It called on the public to remain vigilant and unite to "defeat the enemy's plots," saying Iran is "in the middle of a war."

30 detained during demonstrations in U.S. Minneapolis in federal shooting aftermath

A total of 30 people were detained, cited and released overnight during demonstrations in Minneapolis, the largest city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, authorities said on Saturday.

These protesters were detained "after blocking roadways and damaging property during a downtown march," the city of Minneapolis said in a statement, urging protesters to remain peaceful amid federal shooting aftermath.
