CAIRO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi on Saturday warned that Israel's illegal measures in the occupied West Bank risk triggering a dangerous escalation and undermining peace efforts.

During a phone call, the two ministers underscored "the need to preserve the unity of the Palestinian territory in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and to link efforts to achieve stability with a clear political horizon that achieves a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution," Abdelatty said in a statement.

The remarks followed Israel's recent announcement of a new settlement project in East Jerusalem, which Palestinians see as the capital of a future Palestinian state under the internationally recognized two-state solution.

Regarding Gaza, Abdelatty and Safadi stressed the need to adhere to the current Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement and fully implement its provisions.

They also emphasized ensuring sustained humanitarian aid access to Gaza, moving forward with the agreement's second phase, establishing a Palestinian technocratic committee, deploying an international stabilization force, and creating the conditions for reconstruction.
