KABUL, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police confiscated 96 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 24 kg of opium, and an additional 28 kg of other narcotics during operations in southern Helmand province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced late Saturday.
Without furnishing details on whether anyone was arrested for involvement in the case, the statement added that the illicit drugs were discovered in a series of routine patrols on the outskirts of Bahramcha district.
In a separate operation, authorities in northern Kunduz province seized 169 kg of opium and hashish on Friday as part of the country's sustained campaign against drug trafficking.
The Afghan government has reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the production, trafficking, and use of illegal narcotics, with the long-term goal of transforming Afghanistan into a drug-free nation. ■
