ISLAMABAD, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Navy on Saturday carried out a successful test-firing of a surface-to-air missile, demonstrating a range of conventional and unmanned warfare capabilities in the north Arabian Sea, the military said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, said in a statement that the exercise underscored the navy's operational readiness and combat preparedness in line with the evolving requirements of modern naval warfare.
According to the ISPR, the drills included the live firing of the LY-80 (N) surface-to-air missile from a vertical launching system at an extended range, validating the long-range air defense capability of the Pakistan Navy.
"The exercise also featured the successful engagement of surface targets using loitering munitions, demonstrating precision strike capabilities," said the ISPR, adding that the munitions accurately struck and destroyed designated targets.
In addition, the navy conducted open-sea trials of an unmanned surface vessel, marking a significant step forward in autonomous naval technology.
The trials validated the platform's high-speed performance and mission-critical durability, with key capabilities including extreme manoeuvrability, precision navigation and resilience in challenging weather conditions, the military said. ■
