TEHRAN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Supreme National Security Council on Friday accused the United States and Israel of organizing the unrest in the country, state-run IRIB news agency reported.
Although the recent protests began as demonstrations against economic instability, Israel has exploited them to destabilize the country, IRIB said, citing a statement by the security council.
The latest statements by U.S. President Donald Trump only confirm the "collusion between the two regimes" seeking to undermine the Iranian people's lives, the statement said.
The Iranian people have already demonstrated their unity, as in the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, it said, adding that today, with the same unity, all destructive plans will be thwarted.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to strike Iran if its authorities "start killing people" protesting in the Middle Eastern country.
Earlier today, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei delivered a televised address amid escalating nationwide protests, calling on the people to maintain unity and saying some protesters try to please the United States. ■
