MADRID, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Valencia has signed Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq from Real Sociedad in an attempt to strengthen its attack and escape the relegation zone of La Liga.

Sadiq has agreed a contract until the end of June 2028 to return to the club where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season, scoring five goals in 16 games to help Valencia climb away from the bottom three.

Although neither club has published the price, the Spanish press informs Sadiq has cost around three million euros (3.5 million U.S. dollars). Real Sociedad paid around 30 million euros to sign Sadiq from Almeria in the summer of 2022.

The striker suffered a season-ending knee injury just weeks after arriving in San Sebastian, and has scored just five goals in 57 appearances for the club.

"I'm really happy to be back here," said Sadiq at his presentation, adding, "I felt at home here last season and I'm sure coach Carlos Corberan will get the best out of me."
