VIENTIANE, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- A meeting to commend the outcomes of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) was held on Friday in Lao capital Vientiane, highlighting the meeting's key achievements and strategic directions.
The congress approved the Party's third Political Program, outlining 11 strategic points for the country's transition toward socialism. It reviewed past achievements while setting a vision for 2055 to become a high middle-income country with a modern economy and strong political system.
The congress noted that despite global and domestic challenges, Laos has maintained fundamental socio-economic stability, successfully controlled inflation, managed macroeconomic imbalances, and avoided major national crises, while continuing steady progress across all sectors.
Key goals include graduating from Least Developed Country status by 2030, maintaining GDP growth above 6 percent, modernizing state administration, promoting digital transformation, diversifying energy sources, and ensuring universal access to healthcare and education. The congress also emphasized strengthening Party leadership, economic self-reliance, and social progress.
Laos reaffirmed its foreign policy of peace and cooperation while promoting multilateral engagement.
Thongloun Sisoulith was elected general secretary of the 12th Central Committee of the LPRP. The congress also elected a 13-member Central Committee politburo and an 11-member secretariat. ■
