MACAO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) of the Macao Special Administrative Region revealed on Friday that Macao's average tourist price index for 2025 rose by 1.71 percent year-on-year.

The DSEC attributed the increase mainly to higher jewellery prices and increased spending on entertainment and leisure. Lower hotel room rates offset part of the increase.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the DSEC noted, the index rose by 4.95 percent year-on-year. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices for miscellaneous goods, accommodation, and transport and communications rose by 17.33 percent, 7.33 percent, and 6.05 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Compared with the third quarter of 2025, the index for the fourth quarter increased by 9.30 percent. Accommodation rose sharply by 34.86 percent quarter-on-quarter due to higher hotel room rates amid the National Day holiday and the Grand Prix, the service said.
