KIEV, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- More than 1 million households in Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region were left without heating and water after a Russian attack, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said on Thursday.
Kuleba wrote on Facebook that repair crews were working to restore services to consumers, while social and critical infrastructure facilities were operating on backup power.
Emergency shelters known as "Points of Invincibility" have been set up across the region to support residents affected by the outage.
Russian forces attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region late Wednesday and into early Thursday, damaging a critical infrastructure facility that supplies electricity to much of the region, acting regional governor Vladyslav Haivanenko said. ■
