MINSK, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Belarusian football federation announced on Tuesday the appointment of renowned Belarusian specialist Viktor Goncharenko as the new head coach of the national team.
Goncharenko, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished Belarusian coaches in history, has signed a four-year contract to lead the Belarusian football squad.
His appointment follows the departure of Spanish coach Carlos Alos, who left the position just two days ago after holding it since August 2023.
Goncharenko's most legendary achievement came with Belarusian football team BATE Borisov, whom he led to the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in Belarusian football history.
Goncharenko also found success in the Russian Premier League, where he won the Russian Super Cup and finished as a league runner-up twice. ■
