ABU DHABI, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call on Monday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss regional and international issues, with a focus on the situation in Gaza, according to the UAE state news agency WAM.

The two leaders discussed the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to uphold the ceasefire, ensure the uninterrupted delivery of adequate humanitarian aid, and ease the suffering of civilians.

They reaffirmed the need to intensify efforts toward a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution, which they said was the only viable path to long-term regional stability, security, and a better future for the people.

The two leaders also reviewed bilateral relations, explored ways to expand cooperation across key sectors, and exchanged views on other issues of mutual concern, WAM reported.
