ISLAMABAD, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Sunday said it attaches great importance to the well-being of the people of Venezuela and is closely watching the evolving situation in the Latin American country.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan expressed concern over recent developments and called for restraint and de-escalation to bring the crisis to an end.

It called for adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, stressing that all outstanding issues should be resolved through peaceful means.

Pakistan said it is monitoring developments and taking steps to ensure the safety and security of members of the Pakistani community residing in Venezuela.

The statement comes a day after the United States launched a large-scale military operation in Venezuela, during which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out of the Country," according to U.S. President Donald Trump's post on Truth Social.
