CARACAS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. military strikes unleashed upon Venezuela in the early hours of Saturday have wrought significant damage to the nation's electrical grid, said the Ministry of Electrical Energy on Sunday.
Energy Minister Jorge Marquez shared a video on social media showing the damage to power transmission facilities in areas surrounding the capital of Caracas.
"I want once again to condemn the terrorist attack on the national electrical system, this time on our country's power transmission system," said Marquez.
The power facility plays a crucial role in supplying electricity to several key areas in both southwestern and southeastern Caracas, he said, adding that residents in those areas were left without basic electrical services.
Workers from the state-owned National Electric Corporation are striving to restore power to the affected parts of the capital, he said. ■
