ISLAMABAD, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday highlighted the government's commitment to the rights of visually impaired persons and called for greater inclusion.
In a message on World Braille Day, the prime minister praised the global impact of Louis Braille's system, which has expanded access to education and information for millions.
Sharif acknowledged the contributions of visually impaired Pakistanis across various fields, citing Saima Saleem, an officer at Pakistan's mission to the UN, as an example of overcoming challenges with excellence.
He highlighted Pakistan's efforts in providing accessible published works for those with visual or print disabilities.
The prime minister urged schools, civil society, media and the private sector to promote Braille literacy and accessible facilities.
He reaffirmed that the government is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens to contribute to the country's development. ■
