SAO PAULO, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least four people died on Friday after a collision between a truck and a passenger bus on a highway in Brazil's southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, said local media.
The accident occurred on a section of the BR-116 highway about 60 kilometers from the border between Brazil and Uruguay, in the municipality of Pelotas.
A preliminary report showed that the four victims died at the scene and multiple others were injured. Among the dead are bus passengers and the truck driver.
The bus carrying tourists was traveling north to the municipality of Camaqua, according to police.
The BR-116 highway is one of the most important access routes to beaches in Brazil for tourists from neighboring countries of Argentina and Uruguay during the holiday season. ■
