ISLAMABAD -- At least 14 passengers were killed and 16 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a van in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Wednesday, officials said.
The bus was carrying players of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to Lahore to participate in a sports event when it collided with the van in Jhang district, the district's Deputy Commissioner, Ali Akbar, told the media. (Pakistan-Road-Accident)

TOKYO -- A train collided with a car at a railway crossing on the JR Utsunomiya Line in Shiraoka City, Saitama Prefecture, on Thursday, police and fire officials said, adding that the train may have derailed after the incident.

KABUL -- At least 12 people were killed and 11 others injured after heavy rainfall and snowfall triggered severe flash floods across multiple provinces in Afghanistan over the past three days, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority said on Thursday.
Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad, spokesman for the authority, said the disaster struck Kapisa, Parwan, Daykundi, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Faryab, Badakhshan, Herat and Farah provinces. (Afghanistan-Floods) ■
