NEW YORK, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Wednesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.08 percent to 98.322 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1732 dollars from 1.1747 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3448 dollars from 1.3466 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 156.88 Japanese yen, higher than 156.49 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.7936 Swiss francs from 0.7917 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3726 Canadian dollars from 1.3696 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.227 Swedish kronor from 9.1996 Swedish kronor. ■
