XI'AN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's second-tier football club Shaanxi Union on Thursday named former Netherlands assistant coach Henk Fraser as its new head coach.
Fraser, 59, was a central defender for Dutch club Feyenoord, with whom he won two Eredivisie titles, four KNVB Cups and one Johan Cruijff Schaal.
Since 2014, Fraser has coached several Dutch sides, including ADO Den Haag, Vitesse, Sparta Rotterdam, Utrecht and RKC Waalwijk.
He served as an assistant coach for the Netherlands national team in 2021 and 2022, and in 2025 worked as an assistant coach with the Suriname national team.
"Coach Fraser has consistently emphasized teamwork, attacking football and youth development throughout his coaching career," Shaanxi Union said in a media release.
"We expect him to lead Shaanxi Union and bring our fans more glory and surprises," it added.
Shaanxi Union finished ninth last season in China League One. ■
