BEIJING, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Many countries have reiterated firm adherence to the one-China principle.

Russia recognizes Taiwan as an inalienable part of China and opposes any form of "Taiwan independence," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday.

The Taiwan question is currently being used by certain countries as an instrument of military and strategic containment against China, the ministry said in a statement sent to Xinhua.

Russia's principled position on the Taiwan question is well-known, unchanged, and has been repeatedly reaffirmed at the highest level, it said, adding that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair and China has every legitimate basis to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday issued a statement, reaffirming its firm commitment to the one-China principle and opposing any form of separatist attempts or interference in China's internal affairs.

According to the statement, the ministry reiterated its consistent position on the Taiwan question, emphasizing its strong support for United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758.

The statement also underscored Laos' adherence to the one-China principle, recognizing Taiwan as an inseparable part of China and rejecting all separatist attempts and external interference in China's internal affairs.

Taiwan is an integral part of China and the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair, Zaw Min Tun said, adding that Myanmar condemns any interference by external forces.

Regarding a recent U.S. announcement of arms sales to China's Taiwan, Zaw Min Tun emphasized that the United States should abide by the China-U.S. joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations, which clearly recognizes the government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China, and Taiwan as part of China.

Zaw Min Tun also said today's world is no longer in an era where individual countries can pursue hegemony, as the international community is moving toward multipolarization. Hegemonic behavior should have no place in the world, he added.

Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle and expressed its support for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to a statement published on Wednesday on the website of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She also said that during a visit of an important Chinese delegation to Bulgaria this year, leaders of all Bulgarian political parties reiterated Bulgaria's firm stance on adhering to the one-China principle.

In a statement on Wednesday, a Cambodian foreign ministry spokesperson said: "Cambodia resolutely adheres to the One-China Policy and recognizes that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole lawful government representing the whole of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory."

"Cambodia considers the issue related to Taiwan an internal affair of the People's Republic of China, supports China's effort to achieve national reunification, while opposing any form of 'Taiwan Independence'," the statement added.
