PHNOM PENH, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has recorded a decrease in the amount of narcotics seized in 2025, the Anti-Drug Department (ADP) said on Thursday.

The authorities had detained 26,421 drug-related suspects last year, up 1.49 percent from 26,033 in 2024, the ADP said in a report, adding that 1,118 of the suspects were foreigners in 18 nationalities.

"A total of 5.88 tons of illicit drugs had been confiscated from those suspects' possession during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025," the report said.

The report added that the amount of confiscated narcotics represented a significant decline from 14.7 tons seized in 2024.

Most of the confiscated narcotics were ketamine, ecstasy, heroin, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, cocaine, and cathinone.

The Southeast Asian nation has no death sentence for illicit drug traffickers. Under its law, those found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drugs could be imprisoned for life.
