JAKARTA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government has set a total import quota of 4.8 million tons for several food commodities in 2026, the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs said on Tuesday.
The import quota for food commodities covers beef, salt and sugar, aiming to meet industrial demand while maintaining national food supply stability, according to the ministry.
Under the policy, the government has approved imports of 17,000 tons of industrial beef in 2026, significantly lower than the initial proposal of 297,000 tons.
For other industrial needs, salt imports for the chlor-alkali plant industry have been set at 1.18 million tons, while industrial raw sugar imports will reach 3.12 million tons. An additional 508,360 tons of sugar has been allocated under the Import Facility for Export Purposes program.
The government has also capped fishery product imports at 52,801 tons. It stressed that no imports of consumer sugar will be permitted. ■
