TOKYO, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out early Tuesday at a three-story building housing a veterinary clinic and residences in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, killing one person and leaving two others unconscious, authorities said.
The blaze was reported at around 3:50 a.m. local time, after a man walking by alerted firefighters that smoke was coming from the third floor of the building in the city of Yamato, Kanagawa.
The fire was brought under control about two hours later. Three people were rescued from the building, but one was confirmed dead at the scene. The other two were taken to the hospital, and firefighters said both were unconscious at the time of transport.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident. ■
