RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo has reached an agreement with Filipe Luis to extend the manager's contract for another two years, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Monday.
Luis, whose previous deal had been due to expire on December 31, signed a contract that runs until December 2027.
"The positive outcome was only possible because there was, on both sides, a genuine desire to continue the project, as well as a shared willingness to align interests and build a balanced and sustainable agreement that met the coach's expectations, while complying with the club's governance policies," football director Jose Boto said.
Luis, his assistant coach Ivan Palanco, and physical trainer Diogo Linhares will reportedly earn a combined monthly salary of 2.1 million reais (around 320,000 euros per month) under the new deal.
The 40-year-old former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea defender has guided Flamengo to 57 wins, 20 draws and 11 losses since taking charge in September 2024. This year, he led the Rio de Janeiro side to the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A titles. ■
