OTTAWA, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Two people died and three others were taken to a hospital after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Charlottetown, the capital of Canada's Prince Edward Island, on early Sunday morning.
According to local media, the condition of the three hospitalized individuals remains unknown.
The fire department received a call at 7 a.m. Atlantic Time about a blaze at a two-story apartment building on Green Street, said media reports.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within an hour of their arrival.
Some residents were rescued from the building through windows and approximately 20 residents have been displaced by the fire, said reports.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and officials have asked the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues. ■
