DAMASCUS, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and five others wounded after an explosion struck a mosque in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs, a central Syrian city, during Friday prayers, Syria's state news agency SANA reported.
A SANA correspondent in Homs said the blast occurred inside the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque, adding that emergency teams rushed to the scene and the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals.
Security forces cordoned off the area as investigations began.
The cause of the explosion is not immediately clear. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported the explosion, noting that it is still uncertain whether it was a suicide attack, amid reports of casualties. ■
