ISTANBUL, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Wednesday seized over 46,000 illegal firearm components, enough to assemble over 2,100 pistols, and detained six suspects in the northwestern province of Duzce, authorities said.
The Duzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said the operation followed intelligence that the suspects planned to transport a large shipment of firearm components to Istanbul.
A bus, a car, and a workplace linked to the suspects were placed under surveillance. Searches of the bus on the highway uncovered pistol frames, slides, barrels, a lathe for gun manufacturing, three unlicensed pistols, and ammunition.
A comprehensive investigation into the case is ongoing, the office said. ■
