HANOI, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of dengue fever cases in Vietnam's capital Hanoi has declined in recent weeks, reflecting the effectiveness of preventive measures in curbing the outbreak, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.

From Dec. 12 to Dec. 19, the city recorded 117 cases across 58 wards and communes, down from 165 cases in 75 wards and communes reported from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5, according to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC).

The local health sector continues to urge authorities not to be complacent, stressing the need to maintain surveillance, thoroughly eliminate mosquito larvae breeding sites and step up public awareness campaigns.

So far this year, Hanoi has recorded a total of 6,396 dengue fever cases with no fatalities, the CDC said.
