LONDON, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed Alexander Isak will be sidelined for "a couple of months" after what he described as a "reckless" challenge from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
Isak suffered a fracture to his left leg after being caught by Van de Ven's sliding tackle while scoring in Liverpool's 2-1 victory away at Spurs. The Swedish international subsequently underwent surgery on what the club said was "an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture."
"It's going to be a long injury, for a couple of months," Slot said. "It's a big disappointment for him and, as a result, for us."
Van de Ven avoided any disciplinary action for the incident. Discussing the Van de Ven challenge, Slot termed it "reckless."
"The tackle of Van de Ven - if you make that tackle 10 times - I think 10 times there is a serious chance that a player gets a serious injury," he added. ■
