MADRID, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- La Liga struggler Levante on Sunday named Luis Castro as its new head coach, with the task of lifting the club from the bottom of the table and avoiding a rapid return to Spain's second tier.
The 45-year-old Portuguese has signed an 18-month contract with a 12-month option to extend, while caretaker boss Alvaro del Moral returns to Levante's B-team.
Castro began his coaching career working with several youth teams, before coaching Benfica's B-team and then moving to France, where he coached second division Dunkerque for two years, before joining Nantes in the summer after the club's promotion to Ligue 1.
He was sacked by Nantes earlier this month with the club in the relegation zone, while Levante currently sits bottom of La Liga with 10 points from 16 matches. ■
