CAIRO, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and 22 others injured on Sunday in two separate road accidents in the northern Egyptian province of Beheira, according to the independent news website Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The first accident occurred on a desert road linking Cairo and Alexandria, where a collision between a trailer and a passenger microbus killed three people and injured 18 others. The second incident, on the Alaamin Highway, involved a car overturning, resulting in one death and four injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that high speeds on a foggy day were the main factors contributing to the accidents.

Road accidents claim thousands of lives in Egypt each year, primarily due to speeding, traffic law violations, and poor road conditions. In recent years, Egypt has been upgrading its road network to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety.
