BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- China conducted 23,604 doping tests in 2024 and identified 34 anti-doping rule violations, the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) said in its annual report released on Thursday.
CHINADA collected 27,384 samples throughout the year, the report showed, with out-of-competition testing accounting for more than 19,000 cases. Among the violations, 30 cases involved adverse analytical findings, while four cases were uncovered through intelligence and investigations.
In recent years, intelligence-led investigations have played an increasingly important role in China's anti-doping efforts. CHINADA said it has expanded publicity for whistleblowing channels and strengthened cooperation with national sports associations to improve information collection.
In 2024, the agency received 80 whistleblower reports, representing a 90 percent increase from the previous year, with a verification rate of 2.5 percent.
CHINADA also reported progress in education and prevention efforts. In 2024, it carried out 634 education access programs, 1,186 outreach activities, and 2,714 anti-doping lectures nationwide. It received 116 applications for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs), of which 39 were approved.
In addition, the agency tested 4,081 meat samples and 578 dietary supplement samples as part of its risk-prevention measures. By the end of 2024, China had 405 full-time anti-doping staff members, 1,234 doping control officers, and 1,959 clean sport education lecturers, the report said.
CHINADA highlighted several achievements in 2024, including the completion of anti-doping work in preparation for the Paris Olympic Games, ensuring zero doping cases within the Chinese sports delegation, as well as high-standard anti-doping operations at major domestic multi-sport events such as the 14th National Winter Games.
The agency also said it addressed international public opinion issues, cooperated with the World Anti-Doping Agency on compliance assessments, expanded international exchanges, and continued internal capacity-building to promote the high-quality development of China's anti-doping work. ■
