BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday requested consultations with India at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over India's tariffs on information and communication technology (ICT) products and solar sector subsidies, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

A ministry spokesperson said in a statement that these measures allegedly violate multiple WTO obligations, including the principle of national treatment, and constitute import substitution subsidies explicitly prohibited under WTO rules. They grant unfair competitive advantages to India's domestic industries while undermining China's interests.

The spokesperson urged India to honor its WTO commitments and promptly adjust these measures.

In October 2025, China filed a separate WTO complaint against India regarding unfair subsidies for electric vehicles and batteries.
