BERLIN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- The budget committee of the German Bundestag, the lower house of parliament, on Wednesday approved 30 new defense procurement projects for the German armed forces, with a total value of nearly 50 billion euros (58.75 billion U.S. dollars).

According to a statement released by Germany's Federal Ministry of Defence, the approved projects span the land, air, sea, and cyber domains.

Key procurements include PAC-3 MSE missiles, IRIS-T SLM air defense systems, and Meteor missiles for Eurofighter jets. The package also authorizes the purchase of personal equipment for approximately 460,000 soldiers.

With Wednesday's decision, a total of 103 defense projects have been authorized in 2025, reaching a historic high of 82.98 billion euros in combined value, the statement said.

Under German law, defense procurement contracts exceeding 25 million euros require approval from the Bundestag's budget committee.

The country is ramping up defense spending, with the new ruling coalition having moved to exempt defense expenditures from the constitutionally enshrined debt brake. (1 euro = 1.18 U.S. dollars)
