ISTANBUL, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Thursday detained four prominent singers, actors, and social media influencers in a major new drug crackdown, state broadcaster TRT reported.
Teams from the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command carried out simultaneous raids across the city after the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention warrants for 10 suspects nationwide on charges of purchasing, accepting, possessing, or using narcotic or stimulant substances.
The crackdown follows an operation in October, during which police detained 12 high-profile figures on charges related to drug use and encouraging drug use. ■
