BAGHDAD, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service said on Wednesday it has arrested six Islamic State (IS) militants and destroyed several hideouts during security operations across multiple provinces.
A statement by the counter-terrorism department said that the operations, conducted in coordination with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, led to the capture of four terrorists in Kirkuk who were "working as transporters and suppliers," and two additional militants in Baghdad and Mosul.
Six IS hideouts were destroyed during cleansing operations in the rugged Hamrin Mountains in Salahuddin province, the statement added.
While Iraq declared victory over IS in 2017, remnants of the group continue to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians in urban areas, deserts, and remote regions. ■
