BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's railway network handled a record-high number of passenger trips during the first 11 months of 2025, data from the country's railway operator showed Tuesday.

In the January-November period, the number of railway passenger trips reached 4.28 billion across the country, up 6.6 percent from the same period last year, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

An average of 11,258 passenger trains operated daily during the period, up 7.1 percent year on year, the railway company said.

To boost service consumption, customized train services were launched to meet the travel demand sparked by local events such as sports competitions, exhibitions and performances, according to the company.

Cross-border passenger transport also gained momentum, with the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and the China-Laos Railway handling 28.94 million and 244,000 cross-border passenger trips, respectively, during the period.

From January to November, fixed-asset investment in China's railway sector rose 5.9 percent year on year, according to the company.
