LONDON, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City and Aston Villa both claimed away wins on Sunday to stay within striking distance of Premier League leader Arsenal.

After Arsenal's home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, the two sides responded with important wins of their own.

Two goals from Erling Haaland helped Manchester City to a 3-0 win away to Crystal Palace, who began the weekend fourth in the table and had chances to open the scoring before Haaland struck in the 41st minute.

Phil Foden doubled the lead in the 69th minute, and a Haaland penalty in the final minute sealed a win that followed Manchester City's midweek triumph against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Aston Villa twice came from behind away to West Ham, who took a first-minute lead through Mateus Fernandes before an own goal made it 1-1 in the ninth minute.

Jarrod Bowen put West Ham back in front in the 24th minute, but two goals from England midfielder Morgan Rogers turned the game around to give Villa a sixth consecutive league win.

An own goal by Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade at the start of the second half earned Sunderland its first Wear-Tyne derby win in the league in nine years.

Nottingham Forest claimed three vital points with a 3-0 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur, climbing to 16th in the standings. Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice, with Ibrahim Sangare providing both assists before adding Forest's third.

Brentford and Leeds United shared the points, with Jordan Henderson putting Brentford ahead in the 70th minute and Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalizing for Leeds in the 82nd minute.
