SINGAPORE, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's total employment grew by 25,100 in the third quarter, supported by continued economic expansion and exceeding the 10,400 increase recorded in the previous quarter, the Ministry of Manpower said Thursday in its quarterly report.
Employment among Singapore citizens and permanent residents continued to rise, led by gains in the financial and insurance services sector as well as in health and social services. Non-resident employment increased mainly in construction and manufacturing, according to the report.
Unemployment and retrenchments remained low in the third quarter, the ministry said.
However, it cautioned that although economic uncertainties have eased since the first half of 2025, overall uncertainty remains elevated and is expected to continue weighing on firms, signaling a moderation in labor demand.
"Looking ahead, business expectations show firms are more cautious in their intentions to hire or raise wages in the coming three months," it noted. ■
