CAIRO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on Thursday called for "the full implementation" of the agreement to end the war in Gaza, stressing the urgent need to accelerate humanitarian relief and reconstruction efforts, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

During a phone call, the two leaders stressed "the imperative to start the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip to guarantee the restoration of normal life for its inhabitants," according to the statement.

They also underscored their "categorical rejection" of any attempts aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their land, reaffirming that "the Palestinian cause will remain at the forefront of Arab and international concern."

A long-awaited ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza took effect on Oct. 10, and was reached through the mediation of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, based on a U.S. plan.

The Egyptian president and the Bahraini monarch agreed on "the importance of the full implementation" of the peace plan, as endorsed in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, considering it "a framework for achieving just and comprehensive peace," the statement added.

Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel's military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 70,300 Palestinians and injured at least 171,000 others, according to an update by Gaza's health authorities on Thursday. Despite the ongoing Israel-Hamas ceasefire, 383 people have been killed and over 1,000 wounded in the enclave since Oct. 11, the authorities said.
