BUCHAREST, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Romania's Minister of Culture Andras Demeter announced Wednesday that the traditional craftsmanship and performance of the Romanian cobza have been added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The nomination, coordinated by Romania's Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, was approved during the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee currently taking place in New Delhi, India.
Demeter emphasized that the recognition reflects generations of work by artisans and performers who have preserved the instrument's distinctive sound and techniques. "The unmistakable sound of this instrument now has an even brighter future," he wrote on Facebook.
The cobza, a traditional lute-like instrument, is a defining element of Romanian and Moldovan musical heritage. ■
