HANOI, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's capital Hanoi has proposed a range of financial support schemes to encourage residents and businesses to shift from gasoline-powered to electric vehicles, local daily VnEconomy reported Wednesday.

Dao Viet Long, deputy director of the municipal Department of Construction, noted that owners of gasoline-powered motorbikes who switch to electric models would receive support covering 20 percent of the vehicle's value, capped at 5 million Vietnamese dong (about 192 U.S. dollars).

Low-income households could receive support covering up to 100 percent of the vehicle's value, with a maximum of 20 million dong (about 768 dollars), while near-poor households may be eligible for 80 percent support, up to 15 million dong (about 576 dollars).

The city would also cover 50 percent of the registration fee for converted motorbikes. Low-income and near-poor households would receive full support, the report said.
