KABUL, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have seized a large cache of military equipment during operations conducted in Qalat, the provincial capital of southern Zabul province, as well as several nearby districts, the provincial police office said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, counter-terrorism units carried out a series of operations and investigation activities, which resulted in the confiscation of significant quantities of arms and ammunition.
The seized items include 31 firearms, one U.S.-made M40 heavy weapon, eight Kalashnikov rifles, 17 pistols of various types, one light machine gun, two Blazon rifles, two sniper rifles and 5,672 rounds of assorted ammunition, the statement said.
The Afghan security forces reaffirmed their commitment to conducting targeted operations aimed at reducing security threats and strengthening law and order across the region. ■
