YANGON, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have arrested 10 suspects involved in an alleged smuggling of timber across the country in the past week, state-owned daily The Mirror reported on Wednesday.
From Dec. 1 to 7, the authorities arrested the suspects and seized 115.76 tons of timber, seven vehicles, and machines, the report said.
The confiscated timber included 11.46 tons of teak, 13.5 tons of hardwood and 90.8 tons of other types of timber, it said.
The Forest Department under the country's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has been cracking down on illegal logging and the trading of forest products in various ways, it added. ■
