MOSCOW, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has regained external power after an outage overnight for several hours, the plant's operator said Saturday.
Both of the plant's external power lines were disconnected following the activation of automatic protection systems, prompting the immediate use of backup diesel generators to sustain essential operations, the operator said.
External power has now been restored through the 330 kilovolt Ferosplavna-1 transmission line, it added, noting that the cause of the failure of the external lines remains under investigation.
The plant said all safety limits and operating conditions were maintained during the outage, and radiation levels at the facility and in surrounding areas remain normal.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, one of Europe's largest nuclear facilities, has been under Russian control since March 2022. ■
