BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.7 percent to 3,902.81 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.08 percent higher at 13,147.68 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.73 trillion yuan (about 245 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.55 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to insurance, precious metals and commercial aerospace led the gains, while banking, traditional Chinese medicine and film/theatre stocks were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.36 percent to close at 3,109.3 points. ■
