KHARTOUM, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and seven others injured on Thursday in drone strikes on southern Sudan's South Kordofan State by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allied armed group, according to a volunteer group and a humanitarian organisation.

The strikes launched by the RSF and the opposition Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), which controls vast areas in South Kordofan, struck "a kindergarten and several civilian facilities" in the city of Kalogi, the Sudan Doctors Network said in a statement, adding that among the dead were four children and two women.

It condemned the strikes as seriously violating international humanitarian law and continuously and deliberately targeting civilians and vital facilities.

Meanwhile, the Mashad Observatory, a humanitarian organisation, said in a statement that Thursday morning's RSF and SPLM-N strikes "claimed the lives of children in a kindergarten and injured patients inside the hospital."

It condemned the strikes as "the horrific targeting of" and a clear crime against civilians.

Neither the RSF nor the SPLM-N have commented on the attacks.

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF erupted in April 2023, and has killed thousands of people and displaced millions in Sudan, fueling one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

UN humanitarians warned repeatedly that violence in the Kordofan region has sharply escalated recently, triggering large-scale displacement and civilian suffering.
